Routines are how we achieve what we need to accomplish daily. It is within these routines that we integrate the actions that allow us to attain our goals with repetition. To build strong routines, we must know how they work to create the habits we need to be consistent and grow over time.
As entrepreneurs and leaders, we also tend to be creators. Creators are those that bring forth into existence something that would not otherwise have been, even if the idea already exists.
We are like bamboo when they are starting to grow. Before growing, bamboo develops a complex root system below the ground, unseen. And then, when the bamboo’s roots are ready, the stalks shoot up, seemingly out of nowhere.
Building a routine is a never-ending practice. Keep iterating; with time, it will become strong and resilient and it will be the foundation of all your success.
Ideas are important for growth, but I would argue that implementation is even more important. It is also very hard because sometimes it takes more than one try to get it right.
Past experience tells me that an outside change must also occur with any change within us. It might be easy or uncomfortable, but I must allow it, and I will. In the meantime, I will enjoy my decluttered spaces.
My biggest takeaway is that I have not been as intentional about how I learn by setting up a plan and learning directly what I want to learn and have therefore wasted valuable time. If we know how to set up a strategy that works and then follow through with it, we will be able to achieve greater feats of learning.
We sometimes put off the time to invest in our teams and company structure. I understand the urge to delay it, as we already have so much on our plates that we resist one more thing, and creating these structures takes time and effort. Ultimately, the project will be worthwhile, mainly because you will gain peace of mind but also because you will have continued to create an ever-evolving company that produces excellent and consistent results and that grows as it is meant to.
With time, the people you teach will improve. As they improve, you will improve – “a rising tide lifts all boats.” Those you teach will teach you more than what you teach them, and you will feel fulfilled because you made this beautiful world a little bit better.
As your career progresses and you start to manage people, a phenomenon will occur. You will become more distant from the frontlines, the place where the majority of operations are occurring. It will happen naturally, as others will be involved in the day-to-day, and you will supervise and work on the company’s strategy.
